A 2026 report by Environment America’s Georgia Research & Policy Center in partnership with the Frontier Group reveals that per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are present in lakes, rivers and streams across Georgia. The study highlights that PFAS are synthetic chemicals known to persist in the environment and have been linked to cancers and other health problems.
The findings add Georgia to the growing list of states where PFAS contamination has been documented, with detections reported in water bodies in 40 states nationwide. The report underscores the ongoing concern over these persistent chemicals in U.S. waterways.
