Several congressional and election offices in Chicago received mailed letters that contained unknown, suspicious substances, officials said.

U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley and other Chicago-area members of Congress, as well as Senate offices, were among the recipients, and law enforcement officials have opened investigations into the mailings.

The letters are part of a wider pattern of similar packages sent to officials across the United States, and authorities warned that additional suspicious mail could still be in transit.
