The city will test a gunshot detection system in six police districts on the South and West sides from Oct. 20 through Nov. 3, a two‑week pilot.
The effort follows pressure from city council members for new tools to address gun violence. A mayor’s office aide said the Chicago Police Department will manage the trial.
The pilot adds to Chicago’s expanding use of technology aimed at faster response to shootings.
