A federal jury in Chicago will determine legal ownership of the paintings and manuscripts created by outsider artist Henry Darger. The trial is scheduled to begin on March 8, 2027, and is expected to last about a week.

The dispute, filed in 2022, concerns Darger’s extensive body of work that was discovered after his death more than five decades ago and is valued at millions of dollars. U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Durkin is overseeing the case, which seeks to resolve the multi‑million‑dollar ownership battle.

The outcome will establish who holds the rights to Darger’s artwork and writings.
