Avelo Airlines announced that, beginning September 21, 2026, its scheduled passenger service for the Houston market will move from William P. Hobby Airport to George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The airline, which is headquartered in Houston, said the change will take effect on that date.
The shift will see all Avelo flights that have been operating out of Hobby Airport redirected to the larger Bush Intercontinental facility. The airline’s current operations at Hobby include its regular routes serving domestic destinations, and those same routes will be served from Bush Intercontinental after the transition.
Avelo cited the size and capacity of George Bush Intercontinental Airport as a factor in the decision. The airport offers more gates and a broader range of services compared with Hobby, allowing the carrier to accommodate its aircraft and passengers in a larger terminal environment.
The airline’s relocation does not affect its status as a Houston‑based carrier. Avelo continues to maintain its corporate headquarters in the city and will retain its focus on serving the Houston area, albeit from a different airport.
Passengers who have booked flights with Avelo are advised to check their itineraries for the updated departure and arrival airport information. The airline indicated that ticket holders will not incur additional fees as a result of the airport change.
The move aligns with Avelo’s broader operational plans within the region, positioning the carrier at an airport that can support future growth while maintaining service continuity for travelers throughout the Houston metropolitan area.
