Caltrans has issued a notice that overnight lane closures and parking restrictions will begin Sunday night, Aug. 30, 2026, on State Route 2. The work will affect Santa Monica Boulevard in West Los Angeles as well as Hollywood and Glendale Boulevards in Echo Park, with the schedule running each night from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Friday mornings.
During the nightly period, up to two lanes in each direction may be blocked on the designated boulevards. Drivers are urged to anticipate reduced traffic capacity and to consider alternative routes to avoid congestion.
In addition to lane reductions, parking will be prohibited on curbs, gutters, and sidewalks along the construction zones. The restrictions are intended to give crews clear access for the installation of new curb, gutter, and sidewalk components.
The project is part of Caltrans’ ongoing maintenance of SR 2. Work will commence Sunday night and continue each evening until the Friday morning shift concludes, after which normal lane configurations are expected to resume.
Motorists traveling on Santa Monica, Hollywood, or Glendale Boulevards in the affected areas should follow posted signage and any detour directions. Because the construction occurs overnight, daytime travel may be less disrupted, but the cumulative effect of lane closures could lengthen travel times during peak periods.
The nightly schedule calls for lane closures to start at 7 p.m. and end at 6 a.m. each evening. No additional closures are planned for Saturdays or Sundays, when the streets will operate under regular traffic conditions.
Caltrans has indicated that it will monitor progress and may adjust the timeline if necessary, but no further road closures beyond the nightly lane reductions and parking bans have been announced.
