Caltrans announced that lane closures on the Pacific Coast Highway and Topanga Canyon Boulevard will remain in effect from August 10 through August 16, 2026. The closures, which will occur both overnight and during daytime hours, are intended to allow utility crews and Caltrans personnel to complete cleanup and repair work after the Palisades Fire.
The affected stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway runs between Temescal Canyon Road in Pacific Palisades and Carbon Beach Terrace in Malibu. In addition, portions of Topanga Canyon Boulevard will see similar restrictions. Drivers can expect alternating lane closures that will limit traffic flow, with some sections open only during limited windows each day.
The Palisades Fire, which swept through the coastal area earlier this summer, caused damage to the roadway and left debris along the highway corridor. Caltrans and utility crews are tasked with removing fallen trees, rocks, and other fire‑related material, as well as repairing any compromised pavement or guardrails. The work is essential to restore safe travel conditions for the high‑traffic coastal route that connects Los Angeles to Ventura County.
Officials warned that the extended schedule reflects the extent of the damage and the need for thorough inspections before the highway can be fully reopened. Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes, monitor traffic updates, and allow extra travel time while the work proceeds.
The temporary disruptions are part of a broader effort to recover from the fire’s impact on the region’s infrastructure. Caltrans emphasized that safety remains the top priority, and that the combined efforts of state and utility teams aim to return the Pacific Coast Highway and Topanga Canyon Boulevard to normal operation as quickly as conditions permit.
