Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation on January 1, 2027 that allows the placement of two speed cameras on the Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach. The bill also makes Long Beach one of six cities authorized to use speed safety cameras under the state pilot program.
The new cameras will become operational on the same date the law takes effect, expanding the existing pilot program that already includes five other municipalities. Senator Lena Gonzalez and the City of Long Beach were involved in the effort to add the city to the program.
