Lyft has agreed to a $272.5 million payment to settle wage‑theft claims brought by the state of California and the cities of Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco.
The settlement concludes a six‑year lawsuit that was filed in 2020 when the California Attorney General and the city attorneys sued Lyft over how it classified its drivers.
Drivers had alleged that the company misclassified them as independent contractors beginning in 2016, which they said led to unpaid wages.
With the payment, the legal action is resolved.
