A wildfire ignited on Oct. 17, 2026 in the Santa Monica Mountains, within the area that was scorched by the 2018 Woolsey fire.

The chaparral that has rapidly regenerated over the eight years since the 2018 blaze is creating a short fire return interval, leading to back‑to‑back ignitions that endanger the local ecosystem.

The 2018 fire had devastated the region, and the quick vegetative regrowth now contributes to repeated fire activity in the same landscape.
