City crews in Newport Beach are strengthening sand berms and installing sandbags as a precaution against king tides that could raise ocean water levels by 18 to 22 inches during the week of October 24–30, 2026. Metrolink announced it will suspend train service in the area for the same period.

The actions are intended to reduce the risk of flooding from the unusually high tides that officials say may cause coastal damage. Orange County is taking steps to prepare for possible flooding as the forecasted tides approach.
