Parents are pressing the Los Angeles Unified School District to expand tree planting on campuses after a review showed that more than a quarter of schools have critically low canopy coverage. Data indicate that 26% of district schools have less than five percent tree cover, leaving many areas without adequate shade for student play.
The lack of sufficient trees on many LAUSD campuses limits shaded spaces where children can gather during outdoor activities, prompting families to call for increased planting efforts.
