Researchers have begun employing scent‑tracking dogs to locate animal carcasses along State Route 62, a major corridor between Los Angeles and Joshua Tree where hundreds of wildlife die each year while attempting to cross the highway.

The dogs search the roadway for remains, enabling scientists to study the frequency of wildlife‑vehicle collisions on this heavily traveled route.
