More than 250 locally acquired dengue infections have been confirmed in Florida in 2026, marking the biggest continental U.S. outbreak in decades, according to state and federal health officials. The cases are centered in Hillsborough County.

Dengue is spread by mosquito bites. Historically the state has experienced only small outbreaks, and the current tally surpasses totals recorded in previous decades.
