More than 250 locally acquired dengue cases have been confirmed in Florida in 2026, making it the largest outbreak in the continental United States in decades, according to state and federal health officials.

The cases are concentrated primarily in Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa. Dengue is transmitted through mosquito bites.

Dengue fever is uncommon on the mainland United States, with only occasional small outbreaks recorded in recent history.
