Gómez Platero architecture firm unveiled a plan on Friday to convert the long‑vacant former Miami Herald building site into a four‑tower mixed‑use complex. The proposal includes a 300‑room hotel, retail space and public areas, and is aimed at revitalizing the waterfront parcel along Biscayne Bay in Miami, Florida.
The Miami Herald structure has stood empty for more than ten years, leaving a sizable gap on the city’s bayfront. The new design seeks to replace the derelict building with a cluster of four towers that would collectively host hospitality, commercial and community functions. By introducing a hotel of 300 rooms, the project adds a sizable lodging component to the area.
In addition to the hotel, the plan allocates space for retail outlets and publicly accessible areas, creating a mixed‑use environment intended to serve both residents and visitors. The four towers are positioned to take advantage of the Biscayne Bay view, integrating the development with the waterfront setting. The proposal marks the first formal attempt to redevelop the former newspaper site since it fell into disuse over a decade ago.
