Siblings Janet Risi Field and Steven Louis Risi were indicted on bribery and money‑laundering charges for a scheme that allegedly defrauded Subway franchise owners of more than $80 million. The indictment was returned by a federal grand jury in South Florida and announced by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida.
Federal prosecutors described the operation as a decades‑long network that extracted payments from Subway franchisees in exchange for favorable treatment. The charges affect franchise owners across the nation, though the alleged wrongdoing was centered in Florida.
