South Florida is set to experience the season’s highest king tide along with heavy rain and strong coastal winds from October 24 through 26.

Forecasts call for 2‑4 inches of rain, sustained winds exceeding 25 mph and gusts over 40 mph, while the tidal peak could be the highest of the season.

The unusually high water level is linked to the moon’s position near perigee, which amplifies tides, and is being reinforced by the incoming rain and wind systems. King tides normally occur when the moon is close to perigee, raising water levels; this weekend’s combination of factors is expected to produce the pronounced effects.
