Construction of the electric‑vehicle battery plant in Bécancour, Quebec, is winding down after workers stopped attending the site. The project is supported by a $1.2 billion investment from the Quebec provincial government and is 54 % owned by Rio Tinto.
Nemaska Lithium is also a participant in the venture, and the decline in labor presence is contributing to project delays.
