CDPQ Infra announced on June 16 that it has entered the planning stage for two additional stations on Montreal’s Regional Express Network, to be built in the GriffonTown and Bridge‑Bonaventure districts, with a target to finish construction by 2030.
The two sites were selected to improve transit access in rapidly developing neighbourhoods. The GriffonTown station will serve a dense mix of residential towers, commercial spaces and cultural venues, while the Bridge‑Bonaventure stop will link the waterfront corridor to existing bus and subway routes. Both stations are expected to feature modern amenities, including level‑boarding platforms, real‑time information displays and provisions for cyclists.
The REM, a driver‑less electric rail system that currently connects downtown Montreal with the airport, the South Shore and the West Island, is managed by CDPQ Infra. Since its launch, the network has expanded to over 60 kilometres of track and more than a dozen stations, positioning it as a backbone for the city’s sustainable mobility plan. CDPQ Infra, the investment arm of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, oversees all phases of the REM’s growth, from design to operation.
The planning phase will involve detailed engineering studies, community consultations and coordination with municipal authorities. Following approval of the design, construction is slated to begin in 2027, with a phased rollout that aims to have the stations operational by the end of 2030. The new stops are projected to add several thousand daily riders, easing congestion on parallel bus routes and supporting the city’s goal of reducing car traffic in the downtown core.
Stakeholders have highlighted the importance of integrating the new stations with existing pedestrian pathways and future development projects in the surrounding areas. CDPQ Infra indicated that funding for the expansion will come from a combination of public‑private partnerships and existing REM capital reserves, ensuring that the project remains on schedule and within budget.
