General allocation money, a budgetary tool unique to Major League Soccer, allows clubs to offset salaries or acquire players without breaching the league’s salary cap. Transactions that combine player swaps with allocation money are a regular feature of the league’s transfer market, enabling teams to balance roster needs and financial constraints.
