The Quebec coroner's office confirmed that an 87-year-old woman in Montreal died of hypothermia during a prolonged power outage in January 2026.

The loss of heat caused by the outage, combined with extreme winter temperatures, led to the fatal condition.

The electricity failure lasted for an extended period, leaving parts of the city exposed to bitter cold.
