Engineers have assessed that the downtown “no‑cone” zone introduced by the City of Montreal administration, represented by Martinez Ferrada, last summer is not working. Their report states that removing traffic cones has not led to any improvement in traffic flow.
The engineering association describing the experiment as a failure highlighted that the intended streamlining of traffic in the centre of Montreal has not materialised.
The zone was implemented in the summer of 2026 as an effort to ease congestion in downtown Montreal, but the latest engineering evaluation finds no benefit from the removal of cones.
