Former Parti Québécois member of the National Assembly Véronique Hivon said the medical assistance in dying legislation provides her with a sense of purpose. She made the statement on October 23, 2026 in Montreal.

Hivon served as the representative for the Joliette riding for 14 years before moving to a faculty role at the University of Montreal.
