Autoroute 40 will be completely closed between the Côte-de-Liesse interchange and Highway 15 for the entire weekend of Saturday, July 10, and Sunday, July 11, 2026. The shutdown applies to all traffic in both directions.
The affected segment runs from the western edge of the island, where the Côte-de-Liesse interchange provides access to the airport and surrounding road network, eastward to the junction with Highway 15, a major north‑south corridor that links Montreal with the broader provincial highway system.
Autoroute 40 is one of Montreal’s primary east‑west freeways, handling a high volume of commuter, commercial and regional traffic each day. It connects the western suburbs with downtown and eastern neighborhoods, serving as a key route for vehicles traveling across the island and for trucks moving goods between industrial zones and the Port of Montreal.
Motorists who normally travel on the closed stretch will need to use alternate routes for the two‑day period. The provincial transportation department has advised drivers to consult current traffic maps and consider using parallel roads such as the Décarie Expressway, Boulevard Saint‑Charles or other local arteries to avoid congestion.
The closure is scheduled to end at the close of Sunday, after which the highway will reopen to normal traffic flow. No further extensions have been announced.
