On November 2, 2026, Justice Eleni Yiannakis of the Quebec Superior Court denied a request to suspend Montreal's recently adopted bylaw that makes it illegal to insult municipal employees, including police officers.
The lawyers seeking a suspension did not satisfy the evidentiary standard required to halt the regulation, and the court ruled the request could not be granted.
The ruling leaves the bylaw in force as legal challenges to the ordinance continue.
