Two legal‑rights organizations have filed an application with the Quebec Superior Court seeking to nullify Montreal's recently adopted bylaw that prohibits insulting city employees, including police officers.

The groups argue that the bylaw's broad restrictions on behavior toward municipal staff infringe on freedom of expression.

Montreal introduced the measure to protect its employees from disrespect, but the challengers contend the approach overreaches the protection of municipal personnel.
