Montreal’s mayor announced on September 21, 2026 that the city will not permit any additional encroachment on Jarry Park for Tennis Canada’s proposed expansion. The decision puts an end to the latest request to enlarge the organization’s existing facilities within the public park.
Tennis Canada already operates a set of courts and related amenities in Jarry Park, a venue that has hosted community and professional events for years. The governing body recently submitted a plan to increase the size of its footprint, prompting municipal officials to review the proposal.
After reviewing the request, the City of Montreal concluded that further development would conflict with the park’s current land use policies. The mayor’s office communicated that no new construction or enlargement will be authorized, effectively rejecting any additional encroachment on the public space.
