The city of Montreal gave the go‑ahead for a partial demolition of the Canada Malting building in the Saint‑Henri neighbourhood on Oct. 15, 2026, after an engineer warned that the structure could collapse imminently.

The building, a former malt house that has sat abandoned for decades, has been identified as a safety hazard.

The demolition will target the portions of the structure considered most vulnerable, according to the city and the engineer.
