A cat that disappeared at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Aug. 17 has been returned to its Montreal owner after a two‑week absence. The feline, known as Caramel, was traveling with Abir Batikhi, who was making the journey from Jordan to Montreal with three other cats. While the family was in transit at Pearson, Caramel slipped away and could not be located at the time.
BatikhI’s trip began on Aug. 17, when she arrived at the busy international hub with a total of four cats. The loss of one animal in such a crowded setting prompted an immediate effort to locate the missing pet. Over the ensuing days, airport personnel and the owner coordinated attempts to track Caramel, but the cat remained unaccounted for.
On the 14th day after the disappearance, officials at Pearson confirmed that Caramel had been found within the airport’s premises. The animal was safely secured and arrangements were made to transport the cat back to Montreal. Batikhi received the news and was able to bring Caramel home, reuniting the pet with its family after the extended separation.
The incident underscores the challenges travelers face when moving multiple pets through major travel hubs. While the other three cats completed the journey without incident, Caramel’s brief detour highlighted the importance of vigilance and quick response in such environments. Batikhi expressed relief at the safe return, noting that the two‑week wait had been stressful for both owner and pet.
Caramel’s story concludes with the cat back in Montreal, ending a two‑week ordeal that began at one of Canada’s busiest airports. The reunion serves as a reminder of the care required when traveling with animals across international borders.
