Students at Collège de Maisonneuve in Montreal are now able to speak with an elder mentor for a symbolic fee of 25 cents. The option was announced on Thursday, August 13, 2026, and is available on campus.
The arrangement allows enrolled students to sit down with an older community member and ask personal or academic questions. Participants can use the time to seek advice, share concerns, or simply engage in conversation with someone who has lived experience beyond the classroom.
The cost of the session is set at a quarter of a dollar, a nominal amount intended to emphasize the symbolic nature of the exchange rather than to generate revenue. The fee is collected at the time of the meeting and represents a token gesture for the mentor’s time.
According to the program’s description, the goal is to provide a low‑barrier opportunity for students to access the perspective of an experienced elder. By keeping the price minimal, the college hopes to encourage a broader range of students to take advantage of the service and to foster intergenerational dialogue on campus.
