Montreal's drinking water distribution and production network has been classified as being in a critical state, officials said on Wednesday. They are calling on the provincial government to make maintenance of the system a priority to keep the water supply safe.
The warning comes as the city's potable water infrastructure, which serves the entire metropolitan area, ages and reaches what officials describe as a critical point. The message was delivered by a representative of the government led by Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, identified as Martinez Ferrada.
