The City of Montreal announced on Oct. 27, 2026 that it has begun a systematic inventory of permanent wooden structures, generators, solar panels and camping showers placed in homeless encampments throughout the city.
The effort responds to the evolution of homeless camps into semi‑permanent wooden settlements equipped with utilities, which officials say are increasingly resembling slums.
