Karim Ahmed-Belizer, a 16-year-old from Montreal, survived a severe bout of septic shock and multi-organ failure that followed a perforated ulcer after scoliosis surgery. He spent four months in hospital but kept up his studies, captained his school's robotics team and graduated on schedule.

The ulcer, which developed as a complication of the spinal procedure, triggered the life‑threatening infection. Despite the extended medical stay, the teenager continued coursework remotely and maintained leadership of the robotics group, culminating in his timely graduation.

His recovery and academic achievements illustrate how the young student managed both health challenges and educational responsibilities after the surgery.
