The City of Montreal has announced a plan to cull more than one hundred Virginia deer in the eastern part of the island. The action is intended to curb the deer overpopulation that is harming biodiversity and contributing to a series of road accidents.

City officials note that the rising deer numbers have been damaging local ecosystems and increasing the risk of vehicle‑deer collisions on the east side of Montreal Island.

This culling follows a similar effort carried out three years ago, which did not fully resolve the overpopulation problem.
