The City of Montreal announced plans to open nine heat shelters that will stay open around the clock for people experiencing homelessness during the winter of 2026‑2027.
These facilities will operate 24 hours a day throughout the season, providing a protected environment against the city’s severe winter weather.
The initiative expands the municipal shelter network in response to the harsh conditions that Montreal regularly faces each winter, aiming to safeguard vulnerable residents from exposure.
