Montreal’s Mount Royal Cross to Be Refurbished for a Year
About 25% of the Mount Royal cross’s steel parts and its lighting will be replaced, removing the iconic symbol from view for approximately one year.

The cross atop Mount Royal will be taken down for roughly a year after officials plan to replace about one quarter of its 1,800 steel components and upgrade its lighting system.
The refurbishment addresses aging steel parts and an outdated lighting system, meaning the well‑known landmark will be out of view while the work is carried out.
