In 2024, 37% of nurses under age 35 in Quebec stopped working as nurses, according to research from the Montreal Economic Institute. The same study found that 34 out of every 100 newly registered nurses did not renew their registration.
These figures illustrate the ongoing difficulty of retaining young nurses across Canada, even as a few provinces have noted modest improvements.
