The illuminated cross on Mount Royal will be taken down for about a year as repairs begin. Approximately a quarter of its 1,800 steel components and the lighting system are slated for replacement.
Roughly 450 steel parts will be swapped out, along with the entire lighting apparatus, because the existing structure and illumination are considered outdated.
The removal will keep the landmark out of view for the duration of the work, which is expected to last around twelve months. The cross has long been a prominent feature of Montreal’s skyline.
