Chief Fady Dagher of the Montreal Police Service announced on Oct. 30, 2026 that the department will overhaul its culture and will investigate and potentially prosecute the small fraction of officers accused of misconduct.
The initiative will focus on the roughly 1% of officers facing accusations, a response to mounting pressure from a rise in allegations of wrongdoing within the SPVM.
The announcement follows an increase in complaints against officers, prompting the chief to propose internal reforms aimed at changing the force’s culture.
