Montreal police said the 16‑officer patrol unit remained armed and operational for almost a full day after investigators determined they had enough evidence to act against officers accused of criminal misconduct.

The department explained that the brief postponement was due to a final evidence review before the unit could be formally dismantled.

The investigation had been focused on alleged criminal wrongdoing by the unit, and authorities confirmed that sufficient proof had been secured before its removal.
