On Wednesday, Parti Québécois leader Paul St‑Pierre Plamondon announced that, should his party win the next provincial election, he will introduce legislation to abolish the monarchy in Quebec.
Quebec presently functions within Canada’s constitutional monarchy, and the Parti Québécois continues to pursue greater autonomy for the province.
