On Oct 7, 2026, Quebec’s chief coroner, Reno Bernier, announced that he will not launch a thematic public inquiry into the recent physician suicides.
The decision comes after five doctors in the province died by suicide, prompting the medical community to ask for a province‑wide inquiry. Bernier assigned the ongoing investigations of the five deaths to Géhane Kamel.
