Researchers have confirmed that a tornado touched down in Repentigny, a suburb north of Montreal, on August 2, 2026, damaging trees and buildings.

The verification was made after scientists examined the storm’s path and the pattern of destruction, concluding that the event met the criteria for a tornado.

The tornado’s impact was visible in the loss of numerous trees across residential streets and the damage to several structures, including homes and commercial properties.

Initially, the weather system was reported only as a storm that caused localized damage, but subsequent analysis identified the rotating wind vortex characteristic of a tornado.
