The borough council of Saint-Laurent adopted a bylaw on Sunday that prohibits electric scooters and other motorized personal mobility devices in any public space under its authority. The devices remain permitted on bike paths and on streets where the posted speed limit does not exceed 50 km/h.
The council cited a sharp increase in injuries among young people using e‑scooters as the primary reason for the new restriction.
The move follows a wider pattern across Montreal, where the growing popularity of e‑scooters has prompted several municipalities to introduce stricter safety regulations.
