Saint‑Laurent borough council approved a bylaw on Oct. 18, 2026 that prohibits electric scooters and other motorized personal mobility devices in public spaces within its jurisdiction.

The prohibition does not extend to bike paths and streets where the posted speed limit is below 50 km/h, where such devices remain allowed.

Council indicated the rule is intended to curb a recent surge in injuries among youth using e‑scooters.

The move aligns with a broader pattern across Montreal, where individual boroughs may set local regulations for personal mobility devices in response to rising youth injuries.
