The Saint-Laurent borough council approved a bylaw on October 18, 2026 that forbids electric scooters and other motorized personal mobility devices from public spaces within the borough. The devices may still be used on bike paths and on streets where the speed limit does not exceed 50 km/h.

The measure was introduced to address a sharp increase in injuries among young people involving e‑scooters.

The decision aligns with a broader pattern of Canadian municipalities tightening e‑scooter rules as the vehicles become more popular and related injuries rise.
