On October 2, 2026, the Société de transport de Montréal announced that its special constables will not be permitted to carry firearms or stun guns.
The transit authority said the decision reflects its view that the officers are too quick to use force in some situations.
This follows previous refusals to arm the constables, which were based on concerns about the agency’s use‑of‑force policies.
