The Société de transport de Montréal announced on Friday that its special constables will not be allowed to carry firearms or stun guns. The agency said the decision reflects concerns that officers may too readily use force in certain situations.

This policy continues a previous stance by the transit authority, which also prohibited its special constables from bearing weapons due to similar use‑of‑force worries.
