The Société de transport de Montréal announced it will not equip its constables with pistols and has recruited former Sûreté du Québec chief Martin Prud’homme to address security concerns in the city’s subway system.
STM said constables tend to use force too quickly, prompting the decision to forgo firearms. Prud’homme will work on improving safety as the transit agency tackles growing insecurity in the metro.
